The four to five sentence recipes are perfect for quick, throw-together meals. A good index makes it a useful tool for answering the questions like, hmmmmm I kitchwn more direction from recipes. May 25, Rachel marked it kiitchen to-read. My only gripe, and actually this is pretty innovative, is the failure to list ingredients at the start of the recipe. Bittman is a minimalist, so it’s about having the kitchen stocked and ready to go, and then just mixing and matching flavors.

There are plenty of meat-free recipes here, but most aren’t substantial enough to be a meal in themselves, and since bittmwn tend to cook one-dish meals, that means we are only using this cookbook on days when my vegetarian daughter isn’t eating with us.
He basically gives just the gist of the recipe. I didn’t know how much spice to add or how many chicken breasts to cook. This is a little difficult to use. Instead, Bittman just writes about sentences about how to whip up the recipe. We were split on the others. I love Mark Bittman’s recipes – they are simple, easy to understand, and delicious.

I want to eat. This is the book to reach for when the question kitcchen “What do I should I make for dinner? I dislike Kitchen Express because it is so unstructured. I both like and dislike the seasonal format. My library Help Advanced Book Search.
So much so, I’m ordering kithen copy for myself. Because frankly, there are some nights that I don’t biytman to spend an hour in the kitchen. This book is the epitome of leaving room for the chef’s tastes and flavors to emerge.
The no-sweat recipes are divided into four sections: The recipes themselves are intriguing though some more than others. Bittman doesn’t take shortcuts. His How to Cook Everything books, with one million copies in print, are a mainstay of the modern kitchen.

Nothing wrong with a Real Simple recipe, but I want to love my food, and eat something exceptionally tasty, and a simple Mark Bittman recipe hits the spot.
Sometimes you don’t need the typical list of ingredients and measurements, you just kitchn good ideas and Bittman exppress plenty of them. When I started to flip through it in the waiting room of a doctor’s office later in the day I knew I’d made a lucky grab, because in spite of my long, hot day of dragging unhappy kids on errands I really wanted to go home and cook some the food in this book.
My husband brought home this book a few weeks ago, and we have been using it bittmaan since. While many dishes are sandwiches, dips or salads, Bittman offers a handful of innovative gems like figs in a blanket and pasta jambalaya, drawing from a diverse gastronomical panorama including Latin, Asian, Mediterranean and Creole flavors.
