The action scenes are absolutely rivetting, and still have me writhing in my seat trying to block as the blows fall. The Floating Outfit Book 4: With all the author brought to the story in terms of rich detail, he failed to really involve me emotionally with the characters. It took me this lustbacer to read it because I would read passages over and over again trying to figure out what the author was trying to convey. Lest you think I’m kidding, when the Chinese and Japanese are not speaking like extras on “Kung Fu”, we have one prominent black character who speaks like Superfly, a wizened NYC detective who speaks like any generic TV detective of the ’70s, and Mr.
What kind of writer would use the word “angustate” when “narrow” is right there and there’s no particular reason to bring in a word that hasn’t been in common usage for years?
Was that intentional on Lustbader’s part? Talent behind the camera certainly would have indicated a big hit, as the author attests: I can’t even keep up the parody. Seeing the contrast between different time periods in Japanese history was beautiful, and made quite clear the author’s reverence for the Japanese culture, and to a smaller extent the Chinese as well.
The film rights to this novel were originally sold to Fox but, for whatever reason maybe someone actually stopped and read the book?
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a review. Lustabder of them are a blend of protagonist and antagonist, which is parallel to real life. Called in to help on the first murder owing to the tip of a Shaken found in the body he gets more and more heavily involved the case. I remember these lusrbader as being cracking thrillers with insights into Japanese culture – oh, and plenty of hot sex.

It is a pity that the later books tended to degenerate into oriental sorcery, but this is a stunning opening to the series and stands perfectly well alone. Fast forward to and, after reading it again many years later, I came away with a slightly different opinion. Perhaps it was zeitgeist. I wanted to like this book.
I could easily deride the writer for his endless stereotyping of Asia, in general, and Japan, in particular, I mean really how many times do I have to read that Japanese are “inscrutable” and “hard-eyed” or that tired old phrase “East meets West? There is a quiet stillness and an introspective quality to him that I like.

I’d recommend this book to people who enjoy reading about vastly different cultures along with interesting historical references to Japan’s involvement in World War II. The blow was hard enough so that she reeled backward against the wall.

I always believed that, until… Last year, copies started showing up for sale of a script draft for The Ninja dated January 24, Towards the end the book is getting clouded and philosophical which makes for difficult reading. In the preceding example – lengthy, as in the original meaning of lent: Mar 13, Eric rated it did not like it Shelves: Now, after years of success in the advertising business, Linnear quits his job abruptly when he feels himself yearning for the life he led in Japan.
It is the masterpiece of its kind, entirely unique in my experience. This initial murder is actually never explained in pages. I found the description of the first couple of murders were written very well. Carpenter co-wrote a second draft with Tommy Lee Wallace inbut it turned out not filmable. Copious sex, cultural stereotypes used for flavor, red-light seedy locals interspersed with glass and chrome digs of the rich and you can just see the Nagel prints on the wallsviolence in lurid detail and eventually explosions abound, along with plenty of set-up for sequels.

Great intro to Lustbader Lustbzder cant rave enough about how awesome this book was!! So cool… But such was never to be. In fact, it’s really well established that The Hero’s Big Problem in fighting The Villain is going to be other people getting in his way. And inspite of all that i still can’t help but like the east-west comparison.
